I love Evanescence…
No I’m just messing with you. Nobody loves Evanescence.
Skunk Anansie are far and away the greatest female vocalist group ever.

Even if the other one pays out in cash, there is no higher honour than winning the WoM Death Race

Re: what was the last gig you went to? in Chit-Chat
I saw Andrew W.K. last night in Manchester and it was one of the most unhinged and chaotic gigs I’ve ever seen. Such a mental hardcore following, and I haven’t seen a pit go off like that for years and years.
The band are crazy good - W.K. himself grins and rocks out throughout and seems to genuinely enjoy it.
It’s not perhaps the most cerebral of music. Certainly no Tool, but I haven’t felt that amount of sheer teenage testosterone and adrenaline fuelled fury and joy since the 90’s. (I may be looking the wrong places)
The crowd was made up of guys who find Motley Crue a bit too subtle and intelligent for them, and who will still be living with their mothers at the 20th anniversary tour. Half of them will have thought it was the best night of their life since they lost their virginity, the other half will think it’s the best night of their lives UNTIL they lose their virginity.
Whatever - despite the brain donors, it was an unbelievable gig. Loud, dumb and funny.

David Fucking Starkey on Question Time.
Shithead.
Ranting that GPs get paid too much and do no work
- My wife is a GP and trained for 10 years to get where she is
- She pays a fortune in Student Loan repayments (and THAT’s only going to get worse in the future)
- She worked a proper 9-5, 48 week a year lifestyle all the way through Uni - not a part time half-arsed student like me.
- She has had to invest in her practice to get her job
- She leaves the house at 6.30
- She’s never home before 7
- She rarely gets to eat her lunch
- Despite working 12 hours a day she is still trying to finish last year’s workload for reports.
- She works harder than anyone I know - and always has
- She’s paid well for what she does, but she will probably stop working as a doctor eventually becasue of the intense pressure.
Starkey mouthing off about GPs being Lazy makes me want to smash his stupid face in with a wrench. So that his local GP can sort him out.
Git.
Sorry for dragging current affairs and late night politics shows on to the WoM

Don’t you think it would be like a one night stand with an ex-girlfriend?
Yeah - good to see what’s changed, but not the same as it was first time round.
I still would though.
(Babyteeth and Pleasuredeath I mean)

Re: A Brief CracK Of Light in General Therapy? Topics
Nothing from Amazon yet, so iTunes it is.
Fuck.
Where to start.
The absolute best thing about Therapy? Is their total and utter mastery of developing and changing their style with each and every album. I knew what this album was going to sound like, I KNEW it. I was totally totally wrong, so I had to listen to it. You know, properly listen to it.
I listened 3 times and I’m scared, paranoid and uncomfortable. It’s a quite unsettling piece of music. It took me years to properly get SPYF, but it’s my favourite album. This is a great album. I need to listen to it more and more, but I do most of my listening in the car and on my own, and I’m not sure it’s an album to listen to unless there’s someone to look after you after.
Brilliant?

How bad is it that I heard the news on Radio 1 earlier and instinctively fist pumped the air and shouted yes?

James with a full orchestra and choir at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester - absolutely brilliant! Totally different to the normal gig experience, but even had crowds of people Manc dancing in the aisles before the end. Superb

Re: Leeds in Chit-Chat
Saturday night IS The Cockpit - it’s a hole but it’s my favourite hole in Leeds. The Vic is the best pub in Leeds, although the Scarborough near the station is good too. The Metropole is a good bet for central Leeds. North Bar is good for the fashionista.
I’m busy all weekend I’m afraid, but hope you have fun!

Re: Vent your spleen! in Chit-Chat
University admissions have expanded too much too quickly and there are too many universities offering degrees with too little value. The whole higher education sector need to contract and rebuild slowly. Unfortunately this will manifest itself through some smaller universities in smaller towns and cities struggling to fill numbers and most likely failing. In the meantime courses and lecturers will continue to be seen as a purchesed commodity and minimum standards will be expected. More and more professional academics will be complained about and sued when students don’t pass the course to their satisfaction.
Social mobility will no doubt be impaired as a result of higher fees, some institutions will continue to thrive on basket weaving with media studies degrees for rich kids. The loss of some of the weaker courses will not be a bad thing.

It’s very hard to believe that Babyteeth was their first album. It’s so very very good. Not a weak moment on it.

Reaeally - 2 years ago? I’m pretty sure OCFA was a coaster by now - can’t remember the last time I dug it out in fact.
Timber is excellent - I’ll reserve judgement until we have another album or 2 - it’s certainly top 3 or 4 though isn’t it?

I saw Europe in Leeds on Saturday. It was the cheesiest gig I think I’ve ever seen, but good fun.
A lot of 30-40 year old men with beards, glasses, long hair and Journey T-Shirts who looked like they still live with their mums. We got on great!
