As much as I love physical releases for albums/EPs, I think the day has gone for physical singles really. I’d prefer a download-only single with no b-sides (which I wouldn’t buy) and then an EP or album of out-takes all on one disc.

However I will concede that the last ASIWYFA single was download only, hence me buying the promo cd on feebay the other day (plus a promo cd for a single that was never released but that’s another story), this might have been down to them not selling enough of the previous 7” single, although both the singles before that have long since sold out.

I don’t listen to the single itself (as I listen to that on the album it’s on) and I compile the b-sides into extra albums for each band, as I really can’t be bothered just listening to 1-3 songs at a time, I’d rather have a whole album or EP.

Also, although I’m happy to own hundreds or thousands of albums/EPs on CD, I think I’d have to concede that hundreds or thousands more CDs for singles would take up too much space :-)

Think the trick is to not press thousands of the things, say a run of 300 or 500 7” singles would sell out fairly quickly and as Global get vinyl pressed they already must have a pressing plant they use and the ability to get a reasonable price due to previous and future custom. If small labels (bands mentioned are on Small Town America, Function Records, Rock Action, Big Scary Monsters and Richter Collective) can do this successfully then I’m sure T? with a much bigger fanbase can shift 500 copies of a single.

Yeah, my point was more of a selfish one though :-) I’d rather buy all the out-takes on one CD or two EPS, rather than having them scattered over different releases such as b-sides to singles.

Well I was writing my last post when you posted your reply, so it didn’t take that into account, fair enough on wanting them on 1 or 2 releases, I’m already comfortable with having to have masses of room for my music as a large part of it is on vinyl.
