Started by marja (sinner)

Boyfriend and me (by then it will be husband and me :-)) are going to london the 20th of april until the 22nd. We would like to go see a show. Boyfriend is not too keen on a musical, but a nice play or something to laugh at would be great. even a concert is ok. Anybody any ideas (for 20th or 21st)??

Avenue Q is supposed to be very funny but is a musical.

Not sure if the play ‘Madame De Sade’ will have opened by then.

Will ask my theatre-going colleague…

Tell him if he wants to be your husband, he will have to learn to love musical theatre. Then get tickets to see Wicked, it’s ace.

My friend says…
“Personally, I would go for musicals. (Saw Billy Elliot again last night, and it was faaaabbbbb!)
Anyway, I would go for anything by Donmar. They could check out the Donmar Warehouse, or I fancy going to see Judy Dench at the Wyndams in Madame du Sade.
For dance, Saddlers Wells is a good first bet.
Is there visit just after Easter? I guess they should book ahead if they want a good choice”

The Comedy Store, just off Piccadilly, is a good laugh too.

Hope that helps

thank you very much. I’ve found a website where I can book all the theatre shows around london, so I will certainly do that.
So entertainement for 1 night is covered :-). Next question : where are the great bars??

aren’t there a lot of stands in the Leicester Square/Picadilly Circus area selling tickets at half price?

You could try this, but as far as I can see the show is practically sold out :(

You could buy them here:
http://www.getmein.com/play/madame-de-sade-tickets.html?cid=ltheatrec
but you could end up paying a lot for themif you do.

I hope you get to see it - it sounds really good!

I tried both sites and it says they’re all sold out. I could get tickets for 173£ a pice, but that’s too expensive. Ah well, it will be “wicked” then. Thanks for the help

You’re better off waiting until you get there and then going to the TKTS office in Leicester Square. They do cheaper than usual tickets on the day for shows that aren’t sold out, or selling returned tickets at a reduced rate.

Exactly, you even end up with a chance of seeing a show that you’d previously thought Sold Out - as long as there are returns.

Fair point, although if it were me I wouldn’t want to be taking chances - even if you get a ticket you could be stuck behind a pillar or something!! I suppose it depends how much you want to see the show.

As a matter of interest there is a lovely restaurant in Leicester Square that I went in last year, and although the food was delicious the portions were so small that we had to stop off for a curry on the way home!! I can’t remember what it was called but it was on the corner between the cinema side and the ticket places. Don’t do it, folks …

Fair enough, though the last time I was in London I bought a ticket from TKTS for half price and was in row G of the stalls. And there are so many shows on that unless you’re desperate to see a specific one then the TKTS option is definitely worth it. After all, half price for a London show saves you £20-£30 per ticket.

No - That’s the massive mexican place isn’t it? Why? Is Chiquito’s yours? I love Mexican food and now I am your new best friend. Expect me at the weekend …

It was just a bit further down on the opposite corner, I wish I could remember. You would know it if you had been. I had a small piece of salmon and an even smaller piece of lettuce, and my partner had a doll’s bowl with some cheesy pasta in it. I also had a small bottle of water and he had a beer. That was it - no starters, no desserts - £40!!!
