Review: 42602 Space Research Rover

Posted by ,

It seems that Friends in Space is quite popular, as there's a new space-themed Friends set coming out on April 1.

42602 Space Rover is clearly meant to be a companion for 42605 Mars Space Base and Rocket. It makes sense, as now the Friends astronauts (Friendstronauts?) have something to get around the planet in!

Though....am I the only one who thinks it looks like a monster truck?

Collectable minifigures series 26 revealed!

Posted by ,

Authorised LEGO retailer The Minifigure Store has provided us with the first official picture of the next collectable minifigure series. The theme of the series is space, perhaps unsurprisingly, given the prevalence of space-related sets this year.

Along with characters bearing logos from past space subthemes, there are astronauts and aliens in the selection. However, I think it'll be the pink space baby that will be most anticipated!

They will be available from the 1st of May.

View a large image after the break then let us know in the comments what you think of them.

Next micro Ninjago City set revealed!

Micro NINJAGO Docks

Micro NINJAGO Docks

Images of the second of four micro renditions of Ninjago City sets, 40704 Micro NINJAGO Docks, have been uploaded to LEGO.com.

It's not clear yet whether it'll be available in exchange for points in the Insiders reward centre like the first one is, or as a gift with purchase, as suggested on the LEGO.com product page.

The 275-piece mini rendition of 70657 NINJAGO City Docks will connect to the first one, 40703 Micro NINJAGO City, which, to my surprise, is still available, so now might be a good time to secure that one if you intend to get a full set.

Review: 60412 4x4 Fire Engine with Rescue Boat

Posted by ,

LEGO City’s crack team of off-road firefighters has been scrambled to the scene of this misfortunate camper’s breakfast blunder. Once they’ve whisked him out of danger, everyone can settle by the dock for an egg-cellent snack. There’s nothing like the great outdoors to get your appetite up!

The 301-piece set brings two firefighters, a 4x4 off-road tanker vehicle, a trailer and a dinghy to the aid of a camper cooking in a small forested dockside area. The multi-vehicle response seems a little overkill for the scene in this set, but I’m sure the camper appreciated the help—and we appreciate the added playability and value.

Review: 42180 Mars Crew Exploration Rover

Posted by ,

The four space-related Technic sets that were released this month introduced much-needed variety and excitement to the theme.

The largest by piece-count and price is 42180 Mars Crew Exploration Rover which, rather than being entirely fictional like the other vehicles in the range, is inspired by NASA Mars rover concepts.

Designer insight: Nathan Clark

Dog Park and Scooter

Dog Park and Scooter

Many LEGO set designers use our BrickLists feature to maintain a list of the sets they've worked on and often provide interesting insights about their involvement.

Once a week we publish an entry from one of their lists on the home page to increase awareness of this information and to encourage more designers to create them.

Nathan Clark wrote this about their work on 30639 Dog Park and Scooter:

This set was a quick one to design. The brief wanted a minifigure on a scooter with a dog. There wasn’t much more that could be added.

Instead of a tree, we had wondered about adding a trash can with a little poop and a shovel because kids think that kind of play is hilarious, but we couldn’t think of a way of showing those included on the bag front with making it look like she was riding away from the mess her dog made. Nevertheless, I think the tree with a butterfly is a nice alternative.

5008325 Dungeons & Dragons Mimic Dice Box

This is a lovely gift-with-purchase, but I have some concerns about its availability

21348 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon's Tale

This is a spectacular celebration of Dungeons & Dragons, with potential for further sets

42169 NEOM McLaren Formula E Team

A great mid-sized set that both looks good on display and is fun to race around the floor.

21348 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon's Tale

60411 Fire Rescue Helicopter

This mid-size helicopter ‘expansion pack’ also stands alone as a basic set.

43249 Stitch

A great depiction of the cute creature which I’m sure Stitch/Disney fans would love
