Mustang VIN decoder

Posted on March 2, 2000 in Maintenance

If you're looking for the correct details of your 1965-1973 Mustang, the VIN decoder (found at FoMoCo or other sites) can be of great help.

To begin with, it gave me the original colour of my car: "lime-gold", and its date and place of birth: October 13, 1966 in San Jose.

So my car is a very early '67. But not as early as the Dutch registration says: July 1, 1966. This was taken from the German papers, but I have no idea on what this is based. Maybe the original US papers got lost when the car was shipped to Germany?

Hey - thanks for the plug, Peter. :-)

However, I should point out that the DATE code on your Warranty Plate is probably not the car's true date of assembly. In fact, the DATE-code was assigned well in advance of the car's actual construction. Read this Forum response for more info.:
